Project Description
Winner 2004 NIRSA Outstanding Sports Facility

The University of North Texas, located in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex, is one of Texas’ largest universities with over 35,000 students. In the fall of 2003, the University opened the award-winning Pohl Recreation Center to provide students, faculty, staff and alumni the opportunity to pursue fitness and recreation in a state-of-the-art facility. The opening of the center was the culmination of years of planning that began in 2000 when The Sports Management Group (TSMG) performed a needs assessment and worked with the University to conduct a student interest survey. The Sports Management Group worked with a campus planning committee of staff, students, administration, and faculty to prepare a peer analysis and benchmarking study that documented the need for a new recreation center. Building upon the student survey and the results of the student outreach process, TSMG developed a space program, created a staffing plan, and developed start-up costs and the annual operating budget for the center.
